News about JUICE

Juice is gaining momentum towards Jupiter with the first-ever lunar-Earth flyby, and the first-ever double gravity assist manoeuvre. It will change Juice’s speed and direction to alter its course through space...

Juice is gaining momentum towards Jupiter these days by using the gravity of the Moon and Earth. This maneuver allows a shortcut across Venus towards Jupiter, which is about 800 million km away from Earth. We are keeping our fingers crossed that everything works out as planned. Tonight is the first time in space history that such a double gravity maneuver has been carried out.

Yesterday, Juice already flew past the moon at an altitude of 750 km. All instruments were switched on for tests and calibration, including the RIME instrument!
At around midnight tonight, Juice will pass close to the Earth! Specifically at a distance of 6840 km.
