Euclid is an ESA mission to map the geometry of the Universe and better understand the mysterious dark matter and dark energy, which make up most of the energy budget of the cosmos. Euclid will cover the entire period over which dark energy played a significant role in accelerating the expansion of the Universe. Space missions like Euclid are complex undertakings, involving many people from all kinds of background. For years they work together towards one goal: a mission that provides knowledge of our universe not available before, that enables the research for scientists for years to come.
SpaceTech sunshield with solar array
The SpaceTech sunshield is performing as planned. It powers the satellite and keeps the telescope in (really!) utter darkness. A prerequisite for Euclid to deliver impressive pictures of our Universe now and in future.
For SpaceTech - and likely our subcontractors Beyond Gravity, SELEX Galileo Inc., HPS High Performance Space Structure Systems Portugal (now Frezite High Performance) and Dirk Kampf from Kampf Telescope Optics as subcontractors - the solar array and sunshield for Euclid is another milestone in the company development.
Thank you to all the competent colleagues at SpaceTech GmbH who put so much work and ideas into the realization of the Euclid sunshield!
